20th September, 2006
Dear Parents/Guardians,
You will recall that I wrote to you at the start of term to let you know about the refurbishment of the school canteen and our focus on healthy eating this year. Many changes were made to menus last academic year and further improvements and initiatives are in place already. Others will be developed, with the help of the Pupil Council.
The issue remains high profile in newspapers and in Jamie Olivers Return to School Dinners now showing on Channel 4. You may also have seen a recent story reported about parents smuggling chips to their children through the fence at a school in Rotherham.
I want to draw your attention to a date in the school calendar. On Tuesday, the 26th of September, at 7.30pm, I will be hosting an information evening for you on the subject of healthy eating for pupils. Other members of the Senior Leadership Team will also attend and there will be opportunities to ask questions as well as to discuss your concerns with other parents. We will also be looking for your ideas and insights as to how we persuade your children to embrace healthy eating. I will be looking at the guidelines laid down by The School Food Trust and giving details about how the school is responding. Furthermore, I will cover the accompanying health issues associated with diet, including the benefits of certain food types to our pupils in the classroom.
It would be helpful to have an indication as to whether you plan to attend. Please return the reply slip below to your son/daughters form tutor and I look forward to seeing you all on the 26th of September. Also, a reminder that if you wish to receive future letters by E-Mail, please go to www.wcgs.org.uk and click on Parents Mailing List.
Yours faithfully,
Mr. Silas Edmonds (Assistant Head Teacher)
