Science Week

Science Assembly 8th & 9th March 2007

Script for the Matrix Sketch - written by Jaimie Henry

Aneel as Neo

(House lights up - Projector on showing Slide 1)

When the Blue screen is shown (House Lights Off - No fade - Begin smoke filling behind curtain)

When slideshow is over (black screen) Aneel (Neo) enters front of hall and walks approximately one third of the way up the centre isle.  Jaimie (Smith) enters at rear of hall and stops an equal distance from Aneel.

Remove Projector and Screen from front of Stage.

Smith:  Mister Anderson!  Did you get my package?

Neo: Yeah.

Smith:  Well, Good!  Surprised to see me?

Neo:  No!

Smith:  Then you are aware of it.

Neo:  Of What?

Smith:  Our connection.  I don't fully understand how it happened.  Perhaps some part of you imprinted onto me, something overwritten or copied.  That is at this point irrelevant, what matters is that whatever happened, happened for a reason.

Neo: And what reason is that?

Smith:  I taught you science, Mister Anderson, I watched you die... With a certain satisfaction, I might add, and then something happened.  Something that I knew was impossible, but it happened anyway.  The Headmaster expelled me, Mister Anderson.  Afterward Iknew the rules, I understood what I was supposed to do but I didn't.  I couldn't.  I was compelled to stay, compelled to disobey.  And now here I stand because of you Mr. Anderson, because of you I'm no longer a teacher of the school, because of you.  I've changed - I'm unplugged - a new man, so to speak, like you, apparently free.

Neo: Congratulations!

Smith: Thank you.  But as you well know, appearances can be deceiving, which brings me back to the reason why we're here.  We're not here because we are free, we're here because we are not free.  There's no escaping Science Week, no denying Science - because we both know, without Science we would not exist.

(Other Smith's appear on stage)

Smith 2:  It is science that created us.

Smith 3: Science that connects us.

Smith 4: Science that pulls us.

Smith 5: That guides us.

Smith 6: That drives us.

Smith 7: It is science that defines.

Smith 8: Science that binds us.

Smith:  We are here because of you Mr. Anderson, we're here to take from you what you tried to take from us. SCIENCE.

(On the word Science - start Matrix music - start lighting - open curtains)

Aneel and Jaimie slowly fight their way up to the stage and continue fighting on the stage)

A VERY smokey stage

Smith:  More!

(More Smiths begin to enter from stage entrance and back of stage, walking slowly but purposefully towards the stage.  With a 3-5 second delay between each Smith.  Smiths move up and into the middle of the stage and fight Aneel.  Each will fall onto the floor after being killed by Aneel.

CGI sequence - (Henri and Tib move from the back of the stage, pause halfway down the aisle, Aneel makes a fighting pose.  Tib and Henri jump up on stage and fight Aneel.  They fall over when killed).

The Special Effects boys - do their stuff!

The Special Effects Team

The Smiths menace Neo

Neo and the Smiths

Jaimie returns.

Smith: Mister Anderson!  Welcome back - we missed you......

All the Smiths stand up -  Stop Matrix music and start Bangra music.

Aneel looks surprised, but instead of fighting, Smiths all dance for 10 seconds - then blackout.

All die on stage as before.

Then White stage lights up - James discovered on stage with cards, after cards have been up for a sufficient time - blackout and curtains close.  House Lights Up.

End.
