New healthy eating initiative at WCGS

7WT

A new healthy eating initiative is being piloted amongst Year 7 pupils at WCGS. Pupils are to be rewarded with healthy eating stickers for eating fresh fruit and vegetables and opting for healthier alternatives when eating packed lunches or canteen meals at break and lunchtimes. The aim is to influence the everyday decisions pupils make regarding their own diet and encourage them to make their own informed, healthier choices. The stickers will be administered by Prefects and staff to be collected by Year 7 pupils. Pupils will earn recognition through the award of certificates in assembly for achieving set numbers of ‘healthy eating merits’.

The scheme has three primary objectives:

  1. Raise awareness of the importance of a healthy diet; specifically, the recommendation to consume 5 portions of fresh fruit and vegetables a day.
  2. Encourage pupils to opt for healthier foods during break and lunchtime.
  3. Foster positive and sustained relationships between Prefects and Year 7 pupils.

Here at WCGS, we are seeking to promote strong physical and mental well-being among our pupils in partnership with parents. Establishing good eating habits is a worthwhile investment towards a good quality of life in the future.
