The Great North Trip 2007

Year 7

Between the 2nd and 7th of July 2007, 41 year sevens took off on the Great North Trip. Accompanied by Miss Searl, Mr Pletts, Mr Oldfield and Mr Bean, we visited a variety of different historical and geographical sights in the North of England. We started the trip in York, then went to Durham and ended up in Malham before returning home. Here are just some of the highlights of the trip:

  • The shocked and disgusted look on many of the students’ faces when they found out the gory history of Clifford’s Tower.
  • The jumps and screams of many a pupil on the York Ghost Tour.
  • Experiencing a day in the life of a 19th Century Miner, a student of Durham University and a 13th Century Monk in the same week.
  • Students walking back to back whilst orienteering in Kielder Forest out of fear of bears that had “apparently” been reintroduced there.
  • The hunt for the mythical “Yorkshire Rock Mouse” on Malham’s Limestone Pavement.
  • Using archaeology to decipher a Roman Map of Housesteads fort.
  • Mr Oldfield’s classic competition where students battle (almost to the death) to win the end of trip prize.

Everyone enjoyed themselves and many of us came back with a changed perception of what the ‘North’ is like. Thank you to all the staff who made this possible.
