Drama

Drama is taught to all boys in Years 7 and 8 and is an Optional subject for GCSE in Years 9, 10 and 11.

Currently, boys have one hour of Drama in Year 7 and one hour per fortnight in Year 8.  In Years 9 to 11, Drama is timetabled for two hours each week.
In Year 7 and 8, we aim to ensure that pupils develop a range of dramatic skills, including:
-Working individually and collaboratively to devise and present scripted and unscripted work, which maintain the attention of an audience
-Extend their spoken repertoire by experimenting with language in different roles and dramatic contexts
-Develop drama techniques to explore in role a variety of situations and texts Reflect on and evaluate their own presentations and the work of others
-Explore and develop ideas, issues and relationships through work in role
-Develop the dramatic techniques that enable them to create and sustain a variety of roles

In Years 9 to 11, pupils follow the AQA GCSE Specification, working towards an end-of course examination in Year 11.  This consists of a written examination and two practical controlled assessments, in Acting and Improvisation.

GCSE Drama provides pupils with the opportunities to build on and develop their practical skills in drama – in both improvisation and scripted work - and to enhance their appreciation and understanding of a range of play texts.  It also gives pupils an awareness of social, historical and cultural contexts and influences through an investigation of plays, increased self and group awareness and skills of creativity, self-confidence, concentration, self-discipline and communication.
