Geography
Welcome to Geography at WCGS!
All pupils in years 7 and 8 study Geography for three hours per fortnight, whilst those who are lucky enough to study Geography at GCSE follow the new AQA syllabus A and the A-Level Geography students are also studying towards the new AQA Geography GCE.
Here at WCGS, the Geography department prides itself in providing innovative learning experiences and Geography at Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 take place both outside and inside the classroom.
Pupils in Year 7 have the opportunity to go on the Great North trip in the summer term – exploring the wonders of the north and north east of England, whilst Year 8 pupils study a range of local areas, whilst also able to go on a range of excursions during activities week.
The field work at GCSE changes year to year to keep up to date with the latest developments in Geography and forms the fieldwork element of the GCSE qualification. This means that any fieldtrips would be different year to year.
At A-level, pupils go on a week long residential to Somerset during November and use these newly learnt skills in the “Geographical Skills” paper in January of that academic year. Year 13 will, hopefully, be provided with the opportunity to travel to Barcelona as part of the World Cities module in Year 13.
Remember – without Geography you’d be lost!
GeogSoc
Geography Society will begin from next term. We will meet on a weekly basis to discuss the latest geographical events from around the world, watch and discuss a range of documentaries and attend a range of enrichment activities relating to the most contemporary and interesting phenomenon from a global perspective. In the first week, we will be reviewing a proposed plan to take part in the "Three Peaks Challenge". We look forward to seeing all aspring Geographers, Geologists and Politicians there!
