Information Communication Technology
The primary purpose of Information Communication Technology is to support and enhance students’ learning as well as encouraging them to look at different ways of working. At WCGS there is a belief that ICT and multimedia are vehicles for motivating and improving students’ level of achievement throughout the whole curriculum. Information Technology capability is not just about the acquisition of I.T skills, but is concerned with the awareness that we develop in our students and the techniques, equipment and resources available that may help them improve their learning. WCGS follows the curriculum 2008 teaching units for ICT in years 7, 8 and prepares students for AiDA in Year 9.
The ICT Department offers all students the opportunity to study for a Full course Award in Digital Applications, (AiDA), in Year 9. The Unit allows the students to use the Microsoft Office package and also other industry based software.
The qualification is designed to:
•Develop students’ ability to select and use digital applications appropriately and produce high quality outcomes;
•Promote the use of digital applications for achieving a goal, rather than for their own sake;
•Enhance creativity and communication;
•Equip students with some of the skills that they will need in the workplace or in further education or training;
•Develop project management skills;
•Free student’s work from paper, making it organised, searchable, dynamic and transportable; and encourage students to reflect critically on their own and others’ use of digital applications.
•Prepare students to work independently in the Sixth Form.
