Physics

Physics is an exciting and vibrant part of the curriculum here at WCGS. We strive to ensure that practical work is a regular part of lessons, and have been introducing more group, discussion and presentation work, and longer open-ended projects recently.

We cover Key Stage 3 over two years, and are currently introducing a new series of lessons based around different contexts. From September we will be teaching about the Physics involved in Theme Parks, Pirates, Star Wars and the Circus.

At Key Stage 4 we teach a full Physics GCSE over three years, giving the opportunity to enrich and teach beyond the syllabus. GCSE results for 2008/09 had 83% of students obtaining A* or A grades.

Key Stage 5 Physics (AS and A2) is still growing; we have five AS classes in L6th, and four A2 in the U6th. The AQA Physics A specification is followed, giving students the chance to study Quantum and Particle Physics in the first part of Year 12. Last year a successful trip to the CERN facility was enjoyed by sixth form students.
